Fence Staining Salt Lake City Homeowners Rely On

Staining your fence improves visual appeal and shields wood from weather damage. Unlike paint, which can chip and peel, quality stain penetrates deep into the wood to provide longer lasting protection against UV rays, moisture, and temperature swings. Our painters complete power washing, sanding, and careful application to ensure the stain absorbs evenly and enhances the natural beauty of cedar, pine, or redwood. Each project is tailored to your wood type, desired finish, and exposure conditions for optimal durability and appearance.

From natural wood tones like cedar, redwood, and mahogany to contemporary solid shades, we help homeowners select the right stain for their space and expectations. Our process includes thorough preparation, even stain coverage, and cleanup that leaves your outdoor space ready to enjoy. Whether protecting a new fence or restoring weathered wood, SwiftHand Painting delivers professional results backed by our craftsmanship guarantee

Quality You Can See

Why Our Work Holds Up in Utah's Climate

Painting in the Salt Lake Valley is not the same job as painting at sea level. Altitude, UV load, a short season and a hard freeze-thaw cycle all change what products work and what prep is non-negotiable.

High-Altitude UV Protection

At 4,200 feet, UV exposure breaks down binders in cheap coatings far faster than the national average. We spec products rated for high-UV conditions, which is why a properly prepped exterior here should give you nine to twelve years rather than four.

A Short Paint Season, Planned Around

Exterior and outdoor work in Utah realistically runs spring through early autumn, with application temperatures between roughly 50°F and 85°F. We schedule those jobs early and book them tightly.

Prep Matched to the Surface

Stucco, cedar, brick, vinyl and aluminium all need different preparation. Homes built before 1978 need lead-safe handling, and we’re EPA RRP certified and lead-certified through the Utah Division of Air Quality to do it properly.

Nine-Year Craftsmanship Guarantee

We back our workmanship for nine years because we control what causes early failure: surface prep, product selection and application.
Simple Seamless Professional

How Your Project Runs, Step by Step

Four stages, every job. You will know what happens next at every point.

01

In Depth Consultation

We begin with a detailed on site consultation to understand your goals, color preferences, surfaces, and timeline. You receive a clear, written estimate outlining scope of work, products, and scheduling. Our team answers questions and provides expert recommendations to ensure alignment before work begins.
02

Surface Preparation

Proper preparation creates long lasting results. Our crews complete drywall repair, sanding, caulking, scraping, power washing, and priming as needed. We protect flooring, furniture, landscaping, and surrounding areas to maintain a clean and organized job site.

03

Precision Paint Application

Using premium paints and proven techniques, we apply smooth, even coats with sharp cut lines and consistent coverage. Whether completing interior painting, exterior painting, or cabinet refinishing, our crew focuses on detail and uniform finish quality. Each layer is applied according to manufacturer specifications for optimal adhesion and durability.

04

Final Walkthrough And Approval

After cleanup, we conduct a thorough walkthrough with you to review every surface and detail. Any touch ups are completed promptly to ensure complete satisfaction. Your project concludes with a polished space and workmanship backed by our craftsmanship guarantee.

Fence Staining Questions

How much does it cost to stain a fence?
Pricing is driven by linear footage, fence height, and whether both sides need doing. Condition matters too: a weathered fence needs more cleaning and sometimes sanding before stain will absorb evenly. We measure and quote in writing rather than giving a per-foot figure that falls apart on contact with your actual fence.
How long does fence stain last in Utah?
Three to five years for most fences, with the sun-facing side wearing fastest. South and west exposures take the heaviest UV load and will usually need attention before the rest. We’ll flag that at the walkthrough so you know what to expect.
Should I stain a brand new fence?
Wait, but not too long. New pressure-treated lumber needs to dry out, usually a few months, before stain will penetrate properly. Cedar and redwood can often be done sooner. Leaving new wood bare through a full Utah summer is the mistake to avoid, because UV grays the surface fibres and the stain won’t grip as well.
Can you stain a fence that's already painted?
Not directly. Stain needs to soak into bare wood, and paint blocks that. The options are stripping back to bare wood, which is labour-intensive, or repainting with a solid product. We’ll tell you which makes more sense for your fence and what each costs.
Do you handle shared fences with a neighbour?
Often, yes. If your neighbour wants their side done at the same time, we can quote both and usually save you both money on mobilisation. Worth a conversation before you book.
